behind the song

The story behind my song fellowship

fellowship smallest

“Fellowship” started as an idea I have carried in my mind for over a decade. I wanted to take the old choruses that shaped so many church memories and give them a deeper theological life. As someone who has studied theology, Christianity, and music, my learning naturally flows into the way I approach songs. “Fellowship” is simply the beginning. It is the first glimpse of a series of music projects I plan to release, with the lyrics attached below so listeners can connect deeply with every word.

The process began in FL Studio, where I worked to create a sound that feels familiar and inviting from the very first listen. I built the vocal layers using Omnisphere, blending choral textures with synth effects, then paired them with Afrobeat drums and rolls to add movement and energy. The opening voices that begin with “Do you know…” were intentionally layered to reflect the way these choruses were sung during gatherings, a sound anyone who grew up in the 90s or early 2000s will instantly recognize.

I included a rap section to share my personal interpretation of fellowship. For many of us growing up, fellowship often felt rigid or even a little boring. It was somewhere you had to be rather than a place you truly wanted to be, especially when cartoons were calling on Fridays at 3:00 on Galaxy TV. I wanted to show that fellowship is more than ritual. It is about connection, joy, and community that is rooted in God.

As the beat softens during the rap, the song creates space for reflection. Then it rises again, with the log drum returning, the second verse bouncing, and the chorus lifting everything higher. It all comes together to create a song that is not only meant to be heard but experienced. “Fellowship” is meant to move your body, engage your mind, and remind you why these shared moments matter.

This song is my conversation with the past, present, and future of gospel music. It honors memory, celebrates community, and points toward a new way of experiencing faith through sound. And this is only the beginning. What starts as a song can grow into a movement, and I intend for this one to last.

Below are the lyrics to “Fellowship.”

Chorus
Do you know there is another fellowship in heaven
I know there is another fellowship
When we are meeting with the King of Kings
It is a fellowship
When we are chilling with the People
It is a fellowship
Where 2 or 3 are gathered
It is a fellowship
Yo, we are chilling with the Father
It is a fellowship
Anywhere that we go go
It is a fellowship
Dedicated to the matter
It is a fellowship
Even when I am feeling so low
It is a fellowship
When we pray he dey answer
It is a fellowship

Verse 1
Now we walking on water cos Christ said come on
On this race that we run on
Come on now we are coming as a family stunting on the enemy
Everyone in harmony for the God that we honour
Cheers to the brethren when you are feeling tested
Feeling overwhelmed and the pain is getting excess
We have the blood
We are the body
Given to Abram with the King of Salem
And we are the priests
We are the kings
And we have the keys
We have the word and we have decrees
That can put the mountain in the sea
With one word that we sneeze like sneeze

Chorus
Do you know there is another fellowship in heaven
I know there is another fellowship
When we are meeting with the King of Kings
It is a fellowship
When we are chilling with the People
It is a fellowship
Where 2 or 3 are gathered
It is a fellowship
Yo, we are chilling with the Father
It is a fellowship
Anywhere that we go go
It is a fellowship
Dedicated to the matter
It is a fellowship
Even when I am feeling so low
It is a fellowship
When we pray he dey answer
It is a fellowship

Verse 2
God put the solitary in family
Like he put the Holy Spirit inside of me
Now I can feel it deep internally
Eternally yes internally
I am with the brethren when I learn to
Carry the weight like a gym class
I have been bad now I am gentle
I put it all in a bin bag
I do not pride in my vision I am all about his
He gave me his peace and he made me a priest
He dotted my i’s and he made me to see
He died on the cross just to cross out my t’s
T for Trespasses

Chorus
Do you know there is another fellowship in heaven
I know there is another fellowship
When we are meeting with the King of Kings
It is a fellowship
When we are chilling with the People
It is a fellowship
Where 2 or 3 are gathered
It is a fellowship
Yo, we are chilling with the Father
It is a fellowship
Anywhere that we go go
It is a fellowship
Dedicated to the matter
It is a fellowship
Even when I am feeling so low
It is a fellowship
When we pray he dey answer
It is a fellowship
